atomic * design was started by Desia Graybill, owner and lead designer, in the spring of 2009 at the beginning of the recession. After 2 years of working with an established vintage home remodeling company, the time had come to pursue the dream of owning her own small design company that operated from her kitchen office. What had once been a professional goal set in a "Professional Practices" course at the Art Institute of Portland became a crafty deterrent to the reality of slowing economic means. The enjoyment brought on through the design process of kitchen and bath remodeling has propelled the company forward to a sustainable future with the help of clients, fellow enthusiasts, and tradesmen alike.
“Desia was recommended to me by a friend at work. She listened to what my needs and my goals were and was able to help me get the project done. She also put me in touch with great people who were able to do an excellent job on my remodel. I have more projects in mind and I am looking forward to working with her again.”
